Later on, in the 50's and 60's designers created beautiful cars but even these smooth modern-looking cars were not designed as well as they could have been from physics point of view. Logo design, identity design and branding all have different roles, that together, form a perceived image. Weighing as much as 80, pounds, large trucks and truck-tractor combinations require more acceleration and deceleration time than an average passenger vehicle and can have blind spots in multiple locations.
It is important for drivers to share the road responsibly with large trucks. Drivers should always take extra care and observe the following safety tips. Never cut in front of a truck. After you pass, make sure the entire truck appears in your rearview mirror before returning to the lane. Trucks need additional space because they take twice as long to stop as a passenger car. If you move into that space and brake suddenly, the truck may not have enough time to stop safely.
Always leave at least four car lengths between the back of your car and the front of any large truck you pass. Because of a truck's size, there are four large blind spots where cars disappear from the driver's view. Passenger car drivers should avoid lingering in these areas whenever possible.
A severe collision can result when a car hits the rear end of a truck. Large trucks and the trailers they pull do not have impact-absorbing bumpers. Additionally, the truck's metal bumpers may not align with those of your car. Leaving car lengths between your vehicle and a truck will provide the space you'll need to stop safely during an emergency or traffic slow down. That following distance will also allow you to see ahead of the truck and react to any change in driving conditions.
Following a truck too closely obscures your view of the road in front of you. The driver of the truck is also unable to see your vehicle. If you can't see the driver in the truck's side mirror, the driver can't see you or your vehicle. Toggle navigation. Toggle navigation Driver. Pass Safely Never cut in front of a truck. From monitoring patients in hospitals to manufacturing plants, many industries are transforming with IoT. By , Ericsson predicts that there will be around 29 billion connected devices worldwide, of which the majority 18 billion will be IoT-based. IoT is slowly becoming the Internet of Everything. Emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT and AI together with changes in consumer attitudes are encouraging product-based organizations to think differently about services. For instance, some automotive companies are starting to connect cars, collect customer data and use insights to create mobility solutions, in order to provide a better, more personalized service to customers, which grows revenue and also adds value.
SpaceX debuted a powerful new rocket , the Falcon Heavy, and has successfully launched seven orbital missions. Even without reusability, its rockets are far cheaper than any other vehicle capable of flying to orbit. By adopting fairly straightforward strategies, like using off-the-shelf components, focusing on simple, reliable systems, and planning for high rates of flight, the company was able to out-compete incumbent firms. Its reusable vertical takeoff and landing rocket technology, while a real engineering accomplishment, was demonstrated in the s by McDonnell Douglas and NASA. SpaceX was willing to take the risk to make this technology real. But SpaceX benefitted from being an aggressive player in a stagnant industry.
However, following our previous opinion piece from Dr Peter Harrop, which looked forward to further electrification of construction vehicles in the near future, Dr Niall Caldwell, managing director of Artemis Intelligent Power Ltd, offers a counter argument. In his opinion, while hybrids are undoubtedly a growing trend, a pure electric future for construction vehicles is still some way off. I thought then that some had drunk a little too much Californian spirit, and needed to soak it all up with a big plate of engineering and business reality.

The popular fascination with self-driving passenger cars has opened a new era of how we envision moving people. Meanwhile, a parallel lane has also opened: automating how we move things. While we have yet to marvel at convoys of driverless and digitally connected eighteen-wheelers, or even set cargo-hoisting drones aflight, they seem nearly visible on the horizon. With about 16 billion tons of goods and commodities shipped annually in the US, a wide group of players—large industrials, start-ups, state and municipal governments to name a few—are rushing to develop and deploy automated and, ultimately, autonomous transport of goods, including raw materials, parts and finished product.
